Jens Besser travel diary in Bulgaria
Jens Besser: “In the beginning of this year i made a 30-day-travel all over Bulgaria to meet other artists and to explore again this really beautiful country. A country made for painting murals if you have time and little money.
In Kresna I found an abandoned train stop. I made it my own station – Gara Beser. I’ve always wanted to be a train instructor at my own stop !”
I went to the seaside to meet Mouse, Nikkawhy and Fars from Varna. We made lots of stuff during the few days i stayed there. Most of the walls without permission, just during the day painting on some of the best spots ever – e.g.Kabakum Beach.
We covered as well huge illegal Advertisements with a big colorful tank, the shape turned out after priming and we ran out of colors so we needed to paint this huge tank – although i hate weapons.
I also painted at Stenografika. A legal wall in the Sea Garden (Burgas), build for artists to paint near the beach.
Another Reason why i like to travel in Bulgaria is to find the “hidden treasures”. Old murals from the socialist era. I found a really nice work at the port of Burgas. I like the reduced style of the works. It reminds me vector graphics and stencil works.
In Stara Zagora I went to a huge impressive monument. I didn’t had any contacts there, but i really wanted to do something in that place. I found a market to buy some chalk and did a chalk drawing in front of it , full of „left overs" of the socialist era – block houses and other things.
In Plovidv I painted a van of friends. They use their Bus to go surfing ( they actually teach surfing) and as a tour bus for their band. I made a mix of both on it.
In Sofia I did some works at a social centre which was mainly used for gypsy kids who live in the streets. It’s a spot where we painted in 2012 a collabo with Xpome, 140 ideas, Tika, 1010 and me. The wall is still there and you can find it on street view.
I hope you enjoyed my travel diary.“ Jens Besser
